This 30-minute presentation is presented by Dia Beachboard, Ph.D., and Joshua Slee, Ph.D. Drs. Beachboard and Slee will discuss the coronavirus life cycle and the efficacy and safety of currently approved vaccines.<\/p>\n

About the Presenters<\/h3>\n

Dia Beachboard, Ph.D.\u2014<\/strong>Dr. Beachboard is an assistant professor of biology at DeSales University. She teaches courses in microbiology, immunology, and virology. Dr. Beachboard has been studying coronaviruses since 2008 and is interested in host-pathogen interactions between coronaviruses and the host cell. Her research is currently focused on understanding how coronaviruses evade the host innate immune response. Dr. Beachboard has published peer-reviewed articles in bacteriology, coronavirus genetics and cell biology, and innate immunity to RNA viruses, including the Zika virus.<\/p>\n

Joshua Slee, Ph.D.<\/strong>\u2014Dr. Slee is an assistant professor of biology, the Division Head of Sciences and Mathematics, and the Department Chair of Biology at DeSales University. He has taught courses in cell biology, cell culture, genetic ethics, microbiology, and immunology. Dr. Slee\u2019s research focus is on understanding the innate immune response, the involvement of the inflammatory response in various diseases, and finding creative ways to attenuate inflammation associated medical issues. He has published peer-reviewed publications in the areas of exercise-induced asthma, cardiovascular disease, heparin-signaling, and biomaterial rejection.<\/p>\n
