As part of The Humanities Series, the Spanish program recently hosted a thought-provoking discussion, Unveiling Cultural Barriers in Healthcare, which brought together students from Spanish and healthcare, along with community members, on April 7.<\/p>\n
Erika Hanna, HR manager at Penn State Health and a National Board Certified Spanish medical interpreter, shared her expertise to promote cultural awareness in a medical setting, which reinforces the University\u2019s Salesian values, especially those of gentleness, humility, and hospitality, enabling a deeper understanding of cultural differences and more effective support for the Hispanic community.<\/p>\n
Riley Reichard \u201927, a basic medical Spanish and nursing major, praised the presentation, saying: \u201cThe whole presentation was just extremely eye-opening for me, and I would highly recommend someone to come listen to it whether they are choosing to seek a career in healthcare or not.\u201d<\/p>\n
