Drink at least one cup every 20 minutes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Take rest breaks in a designated shady or cool location.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Dress for the heat by wearing a hat and light-colored, loose-fitting, breathable clothing if possible.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Watch for signs of heat illness in yourself and others.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">During the heat of summer, people are susceptible to heat-related illnesses including heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Symptoms to look out for include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Headache.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Nausea.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Weakness.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Dizziness.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Heavy sweating.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Hot, dry skin.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Elevated body temperature.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Excessive thirst.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Decreased urine output.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">If you or others around you start to experience any of these symptoms, act quickly as these heat-related illnesses can worsen <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">quickly<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Drink water.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Remove unnecessary clothing.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Move to a cool area.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Cool with water, ice, or a fan.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Use the buddy system and don\u2019t leave the affected person alone.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">When in doubt, call 911.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Questions?<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"mailto:Heidi.Fleming@desales.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">heidi.fleming@desales.edu<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Outdoor and indoor heat exposure can be dangerous, but we can take action to prepare ourselves.
