National Nurse Practitioner Week—NPs Moving Forward: Today. Tomorrow. Together.

/ November 13, 2020/ Faculty, Staff, Students

DeSales University’s Nurse Practitioner (NP) Programs are celebrating National Nurse Practitioner (NP) Week 2020 (November 8-14) in recognition of having provided 21 years of quality NP education. As we come to the end of the international celebration of the International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife 2020, this is a great time to celebrate. NPs have made continuous contributions to health since the profession was founded in 1965 in response to a dearth of primary care providers, particularly for children, in urban and rural areas in the United States.

DeSales University educates NPs to provide primary, acute, and psychiatric care.  NPs can diagnose, treat, and prescribe within the scope of their academic preparation. NPs are acknowledged as expert, patient-centered clinicians and are the provider of choice for many consumers due to their unique blending of nursing and medical skills and expertise. NPs partner with their patients to determine the best health choices for that individual, using a holistic approach that always includes education and lifestyle choices.  Research over the past 50 years demonstrates the quality of the NP profession. So, if you know an NP, thank them this week for their major contribution to the health of Americans!

Did you know?

  • Nurse practitioners actually hold their own licenses at the state level and are certified at the national level.
  • NPs assess, diagnose, interpret diagnostic tests, and prescribe medications.
  • NPs are highly analytical and observational, and approach patient care from a holistic perspective that can help improve overall health and reduce costs.
