Weekly Safety Tip: Safety Organizations
The DeSales occupational safety & health department is part of two safety organizations, ASSP and CSHEMA.
What is ASSP?
The American Society of Safety Professionals is a global association for occupational safety and health professionals. ASSP supports 36,000 OSH professionals in 80 countries in their efforts to prevent workplace injuries, illnesses, and fatalities. It provides education, advocacy, standards development, and a professional community to members. ASSP also has over 150 local chapters, including a Lehigh Valley chapter. DeSales is active in the LV chapter and has hosted multiple LV ASSP chapter meetings on campus. Being involved in this organization helps us tap into a global network, and also work locally with EHS professionals.
What is CSHEMA?
CSHEMA is the Campus Safety, Health, and Environmental Management Association. The mission of CSHEMA is to support and educate campus-based environmental health and safety professionals to empower and to improve the EHS profession in campus environments. CSHEMA has more than 4,000 members from more than 400 higher education institutions. Being involved in this organization gives DSU access to specific resources and knowledge regarding college/campus safety.
