DeSales University to Host Annual Ethics Competition for Local High Schools
Students from nine high schools across the region will put their ethical decision-making skills to the test on Thursday, Nov. 14, at the annual Fleming High School Ethics Bowl Competition at DeSales University.
This year’s case study centers around commercialized space exploration. During the first round of the competition, teams will have 20 minutes to present their case to a panel of judges made up of business executives and members of the DeSales faculty, and 15 minutes to answer the judges’ questions.
The judges will then select four teams to advance to the final round, where each team will be given a “twist” related to the original case and have 45 minutes to prepare a response. This year’s participating high schools are Easton Area High School, Liberty High School, Norristown Area High School, Palisades High School, Parkland High School, Saucon Valley High School, Southern Lehigh High School, Upper Perkiomen High School, and Wilson Area High School.
Along with commemorative trophies, the top four teams will also take home one-time scholarship awards to be split evenly among team members. The top three teams will also receive additional academic tuition scholarships if they attend DeSales University.
Richard Fleming and his family foundation established The Fleming Institute for Business Ethics at DeSales University in 2009 with a goal to promote a culture of ethical awareness and action in business professions through the collaborative efforts of corporate and educational groups.
