Boosting Brand Impact: Consider Your Audience
Just as you wouldn’t send a teenager a text message in Elizabethan English (Yes, thou must relinquish thine urge to press-eth send) or present at a conference wearing swim trunks, you must consider your audience when crafting branded messages and determining where you will release them.
Ask yourself the following:
- Who are you trying to communicate with and why?
- Consider key demographics like education level, gender, age, income, career, etc.
- What does this demographic value? What are their emotional drivers and behaviors?
- Do they respond better to formal or informal (but still appropriate) communications?
- What spaces do they reside in?
- For example, are they active on social media? Which platforms? Do they check their emails? Do they prefer face to face communication or virtual?
Getting to know your audience is crucial for developing content that attracts and maintains their attention. The goal is to do what will serve them best, which may mean putting aside your personal preferences.
