Today: Science Seminar Series–“Lehigh University: Graduate Programs in Engineering”

Please join us for the Science Seminar Series: “Lehigh University: Graduate Programs in Engineering” today, Nov. 18, at 3PM in the Hurd Science Center auditorium with Lehigh University professors, Mark Snyder, Ph.D., Angela Brown, Ph.D., Lesley Chow, Ph.D., and Nicholas Strandwitz, Ph.D. Learn about opportunities to bridge into graduate degrees in engineering. Listen as they share an overview of engineering graduate programs and potential non-engineering pathways (e.g., biology, chemistry, etc.) to graduate degrees in engineering. They will each share information about their research and pathways to graduate studies before opening a Q&A session. 

Spotlight on the speakers:

  • Mark Snyder is a professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering and the associate dean for graduate education in Lehigh University’s P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science. He earned his Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from Lehigh University in 2000, and his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering in 2006 from the University of Delaware. Before his return to Lehigh in 2008, Snyder was a postdoctoral associate in the department of chemical engineering and materials science at the University of Minnesota. Snyder’s research focuses on the design and engineering of functional inorganic nanoparticles, nanoparticle assembly, and porous particles and thin films for applications spanning separations, catalysis, and energy technologies.
  • Angela Brown is an associate professor in the department of chemical and biomolecular engineering at Lehigh University. She received a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University and a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Drexel University. She then completed postdoctoral training in the departments of immunology and biochemistry at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine. The members of the Brown Lab investigate novel methods to treat bacterial infections to limit or overcome antibiotic resistance. 
  • Lesley Chow is an associate professor in the departments of materials science and engineering and bioengineering at Lehigh University. She received her Bachelor of Science in MSE from the University of Florida, a Ph.D. in MSE from Northwestern University, and joined Lehigh following her postdoctoral training at Imperial College London. She leads the Modular Biomaterials Laboratory at Lehigh, which focuses on developing molecular building blocks to construct spatially organized materials that direct functional tissue regeneration.
  • Nicholas Strandwitz joined the Lehigh University faculty in January 2013. Strandwitz completed his BS in Engineering Science at The Pennsylvania State University in 2004.  He then earned his Ph.D. from the materials department at the University of California Santa Barbara. Professor Strandwitz conducted postdoctoral work at the California Institute of Technology. His research interests at Lehigh include new chemistries and techniques in atomic layer deposition and interfacial electronic properties between semiconductors and atomic layer deposited metal oxides. His research is supported by the National Science Foundation, Department of Energy, Pennsylvania Department of Commerce and Economic Development, and several small and large companies. Strandwitz is the recipient of the Harold Chambers Junior Professorship (2016, 2017) and the NSF CAREER Award (2018).
