5/28: DSU BBQ—Full Schedule of Events

Congratulations to all faculty and staff on completing another successful year at DeSales. To celebrate, we invite you to join all your fellow colleagues at our annual DSU BBQ / Employee Appreciation Day! We’re bringing back many of your favorite activities from previous BBQs, as well as Fr. Jim’s State of the University. Whatever you decide to partake in, you are sure to have a fun day with your extended DeSales family. Giveaways, multiple raffles, and prizes will be awarded throughout the day. Select adult beverages will be available throughout the day for employees over the age of 21. Please bring your ID.

The DSU BBQ 2025 is scheduled for Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

T-shirt pickup:

  • If you registered for a T-shirt, we will be distributing them the day before the BBQ, Tuesday, May 27, from 11AM–1PM in the DUC. You can also pick up your shirt the morning of the BBQ, Wednesday, May 28, from 9AM–10AM in the DUC.

Brown bag raffle:

  • We kindly ask departments, schools, and colleges across the University to donate items from their store of swag and tchotchkes (T-shirts, mugs, totes, etc.). These items are placed into brown bags for a blind raffle during the BBQ.
  • If you can donate a prize, please drop it off to Teresa Manion, Gambet, room 147B, or Leah Alicea in conference services in the DUC. You can also send items through campus mail. Items will be accepted through Friday, May 23.

Raffle prizes:

  • In addition to the Brown Bag raffles, there will be more prizes raffled off! Prizes this year include a pickleball set, a magic bullet, a walking pad, a Tommy Bahama beach chair, two Phillies tickets for Friday, June 13, at 6:45PM, and four tickets to the Emmaus Pancake Festival on Sunday, June 1, at 8AM.
  • Want to win a brown bag raffle or other raffle prize? You can sign up on Engage.DeSales.edu before the BBQ to be entered to win or on the day of the raffle.
    • Raffle winners will be notified after the event.

Schedule of events:

  • 9AM–10AM: Poker Walk—Start at St. Francis de Sales Statue
    • Enjoy a nice morning stroll around campus, with the added enjoyment of competing for the best poker hand. Five stops across campus will earn you five playing cards. At the final stop, your poker hand is tabulated. Prizes will be awarded.
    • Please try to start the walk prior to 9:20AM so you have enough time to finish the course.
    • Please register in advance on signupgenius.com so we know you’re coming.
  • 9AM–10AM: Omelet station with Chef Francisco
    • This year, Chef Francisco will again be hosting an Omelet station.
  • 10AM–11AM: State of the University—The DUC
    • An employee favorite! Fr. Jim Greenfield will update us on how we’re doing and where we’re going.
  • 11AM–1PM: Free play—Campus Mall, Dorothy Day, DUC
    • Yard games and table games will be available throughout campus.
  • 11AM-noon: Trivia – O’Connor Commons
    • Can anyone beat Tom McNamara this year? Form your best team and give it a go.
  • 10AM–4PM: Disc Golf—Disc Golf Course
    • Grab your friends and throw for the cages! Discs will be available throughout the day across campus.
  • 11:30AM–1PM: BBQ Lunch—DUC Dining Hall
    • Music will be provided from noon–1PM by the Mystic Music Hounds Duo.
  • 1PM–2PM: Bingo—DUC Commonwealth room
    • Join the excitement, camaraderie, and epic prizes as we bring the classic game of Bingo to campus. Prizes will be awarded.
  • 2PM–3:30PM: Cornhole tournament—The lawn behind the DUC
    • Sixteen teams battle it out in a single-elimination bracket-style tournament to determine the cornhole champs of 2025! The bracket and schedule will be sent to all participants before the day of the event. Non-tournament free-play will be available throughout the day. Prizes awarded.
